Ninjas in Training

This year for Halloween the Fairhurst family decided we would all dress up as ninjas. This was a natural choice for our family, we spend a lot of time wrestling and ninja fighting. As fun as this all sounds, representing ninjas is a serious business. I love my kids, but I can't have them defacing the good name of ninjahood. Rigorous training for this event was necessary. Here is some film of one of our training sessions. The kids did well and we had a lot of fun with our weekend of trick (trunk) or treatin'. HIIIII YAAAAA

pee-wee in HD

So Ashton joined a pee-wee flag football team at the end of this summer. Today was his first game. I had so much fun watching him. My new camera has HD video capabilities so I tried it out so that Kev wouldn't miss it completely. (he had to work today and I know was bummed). Ashton played center for most of the game. He played the whole game and it was about 85 degrees. Chloe and Ashy were so hot we had to go for some victory icecream after. Check out one of Ashton's big plays. Oh and pardon my screaming. This is my first mommy football game and I have no control, something for me to work on next game.

preschool for Chloe

So today was chloe's first day of prescool. I asked her was she learned she said she didn't know. Her teacher told me that when they looked for the letters to spell their names Chloe looked for 'A'. I have a sneaky feeling that she spells her name A-S-H-T-O-N. Her teacher told me that during circle time she sarcasticly shared that her favorite thing to eat is food, her favorite thing to play with is toys, and her not favorite is to play outside when Jack Jack is out. (he is a dog). Her teacher who know Kevin said that she sounded just like her dad with her serious sarcasim.

She is so happy to have some school stories to swap with Ashton now. Oh I got her to smile pretty by asking her if she liked ice cream. I knew her reaction would be nice. Then she asked me for 5 minutes straight if we could have ice cream today. I kept telling her no. Lucky her though she got to make peach cobbler and eat it with ice cream at preschool today.

Happy Birthday Baby

Yesterday was a little crazy with the starting of school. We still found time to celebrate little Oli's birthday. She had a small party. Her friends Ajah, and Grace came. (Chloe was disappointed that it wasn't Gracie). She is our first child to really go for it with the cake. Oli had a wonderful time, and was ready for bed by the end.

First day of school.

It was Ashtons first day of Kindergarden today. He was super excited about riding the Kindergarden bus home. They have a bus for only little guys that takes them home at noon. He told me he had lots of friends in his class and that they got to play 2 times. Later we heard him saying some new words that I won't repeat. He had no clue what they meant. We had the "some kids say things at school that we don't" discussion. Yippee I'm so excited for kindergarden.

Oh the wonderful things you can do

I'm still totally addicted to using freezer stencils. I"m slowly putting together a bird themed room for Oli. Here are the curtains that I just finished.

5 things I love about Washington

The location (we are so much closer to friends and family).

It is absolutely beautiful here.
There is a ton to do. Especially all the hiking and fishing.
We are addicted to the U-pick farms. Nothing like fresh peaches, apples, strawberries and raspberries.
The neighborhood. Really there is nothing like sharing the hood with a few llama and deer not to mention the occasional moose.

freezer stencil explanation

I wish I had taken more photo's of the other shirts I made, but if you get on Flickr and type in freezer stencil shirts you can see tons of examples. Basically what you do is buy freezer paper ( the kind that is waxy on only one side). You find a graphic you like and trace it on to the paper, or you can make your own drawing on the freezer paper. (B&W is best) Then using an exacto knife, cut it out. Here is the cool part. Iron your stencil on your shirt. Waxy, shinny side down. It will stick. then paint over the top with fabric paint. Wait until it dries, or hair dry it if your impatient like me and then remove the stencil. Taa Daaa. you made your own awesome shirt. You can do this with bags, hats, burp cloths, pillows, really the ideas are limitless. Last tip, if you have a Cricket scrap book machine, or vinyl cutting machine you can skip all the steps and just have the machine cut the freezer paper for you. Google it, there are better tutorials out there. check these

Disclaimer; this is a highly addictive activity with very gratifying results, it took me a good 2weeks to stop trying to put everything I saw on to a shirt.

Hello Seattle

We took a trip to Seattle this last week. It was crazy fun. My brother and sister were able to come, and it was nice getting to hang out with them. We spent a bit of time downtown, seeing all the sites. We were fortunate enough to meet the Pikes place market doughnut wolverine, and witness mass baptisms in Puget Sound. (where the temp never reaches over 52 degrees, can I get a amen) the only thing we wish is that it was a little longer.

Manito Park

This park we found is amazing. I just thought I would share a few pics.

Freezer stencil shirts

I saw this on a craft blog a while ago. We tried it for Young women camp shirts and it turned out awesome, and I was hooked. I made a shirt for everyone in my fam. I also made shirts for my family that was in town. Here is Ashton and Chloe's. He-man and She-ra if you can't tell. The shirts were on sale for 2$.

priest Lake

One of the things I love about where we live is how accessible the wilderness is, and how many cool things there are to do. Recently we went with some friends to stay at a cabin on Priest lake. We swam a lot, fished, and played games until we couldn't stay awake.

the photos are as follows. Oli and I hiking to the water falls. The blinding sunrise that woke us up. Oli in Kev's lap. The island beach. Ashton tight-rope walking with his balancing pole.

watch this grandpa!

Ashton has been working on this for a while and wanted to show grandpa.

long time no blog

Sorry, I made it a goal to spend less time on the computer and on crafting. I think I meet my goal a little too well. So here is an update on what we and the kids have been up too.

1 Oli is crawling and can now where pig tails.
2 Chloe is helping give Oli baths and fishing with Dad
3 Ashton graduated preschool, is reading books to Chloe and can go all the way across the monkey bars.
Enjoy

Oli constantly twirls her feet. The faster she twirls the happier she is. Slow twirl equals tired.
Ashton is quit the performer Much more so than the others in his class, (he gets it from his uncle Garrett).

random photos from Vacation

Grandma was the Baby charmer.
Mesa and I's close up, some friendships never change.
Our Elders all spiffed up, This is my favorite photo. I just don't ever have enough photos of Grandma and Grandpa. p.s. if any siblings need copies of photos of g-ma and g-pa let me know.

colorado Vacation post #3 ITZ

Its like Chuckee Cheese and Boomers in one, with a buffet. Really, can it get any better. Ashton beat me at air hockey. Chloe hit the jackpot button and ended up with about 1,000 tickets, and Oli took a nap in the stroller. We all went home full, tired and with some awesome prizes.  Thanks to Grandpa. (Coolest place ever)
